Listing with Box Contents Off

Learn how to create FBA shipments without providing box contents, including steps for turning off box contents, boxing items, and shipping.

Updated this week

This guide will walk you through creating FBA shipments without providing detailed box contents information to Amazon.

Note: Please keep in mind that choosing not to provide box contents information will result in a manual processing fee from Amazon.

Turn Box Contents Off

Option 1: Create a Batch with Box Contents Off

  1. Create a new FBA batch. When you reach the Batch Settings screen shown below, in the Box Contents dropdown, choose Off - Manual Processing.

  2. Click Start Your Batch to move on to Find It once you're happy with your batch settings. Then skip down to Find It below.

Option 2: Turn Box Contents Off for an Existing Batch

If your batch has already reached the Find It or Box It step, you can still turn Box Contents Off!

  1. Click the kebab menu next to the name of the batch on the left. Choose Edit Batch Information.

  2. Open the Box Contents dropdown and select Off - Manual Processing.

  3. Click Save in the lower right.

Your batch now has Box Contents Off! Keep reading below if you're on the Find It step now. If you've already made it past Find It, skip down to Box It.

Find It

  1. Search for and list your items as usual. For detailed instructions, check out this article: Searching the Catalog.

  2. If you don't have automatic label printing set up, print FNSKU labels for any items you're labeling yourself. Apply all required item labels.

  3. Proceed to the Box It or Plan It (for LTL Pack Last only) stage by clicking Continue to Box It or Continue to Plan It.

You can skip to Box It here if you aren't using LTL Pack Last.

Plan It - LTL Pack Last Only

  1. When the new window opens, click Confirm and Continue.

  2. In Plan It, you will be provided with different placement options. Review them and select yours.

    1. You can sort the placement options by Inbound Placement Fee or Total Destinations.

    2. You can also Generate New Options if the suggested ones don’t work for you.

  3. Select a Placement Option.

  4. Review the details on the right side of your screen.

  5. If you are satisfied with the results, click Confirm Placement Option at the bottom. Here, you can also print your Shipping Manifests.

Box It

  1. When the new window opens, click Start Boxing My Batch.

Your items may be separated into pack groups by Amazon. If so, you'll see Group # tabs at the top of the screen.

All the items on the right side of your screen belong to the currently selected group. They can all be boxed together with items in the same group, but must be boxed separately from items in different groups.

  2. If you didn't print the labels for your items in Find It, now is the time. Click the checkbox icon above the items on the right to open Bulk Edit.

Tick the boxes next to each item you'd like to print labels for, or tick the Select All box at the top to select everything in this group at once. You can then use the printing options at the bottom of the screen to print your labels.

Note: Use Print Labels for a thermal label printer or Print 30 Up Labels for anything else. If printing for multiple items at once, leave the number of labels blank to automatically print the exact number of labels needed.

  3. Box all your items for your selected group. If you end up using more than one box, click + New Box until you have all the boxes you need in InventoryLab.

  4. Click on the first box in this group. Enter the box's length, width, height, and weight.

Repeat for each box in the group.

  5. Print Packing ID labels for each of your boxes. Click the checkbox icon above your boxes to activate Bulk Edit.

Tick the checkboxes of any boxes you're ready to label. Click Print Packing ID Labels if you're using a thermal label printer or Print Packing ID 30 Up Labels for anything else.

This will print labels displaying codes like P1 - B1, matching the Packing IDs shown on your boxes in InventoryLab. Be extremely careful to apply each label to the correct box. This is the only way to guarantee you will be able to match your shipping labels to the correct boxes later.

Important: If you delete any box, it will change the Packing IDs for all boxes that come after it in the same group. For example, if you delete P1 - B3, then P1 - B4 will become your new P1 - B3, P1 - B5 will become your new P1 - B4, etc. Be sure to reprint and reapply labels as needed after deleting any boxes.

  6. If you have more than one group, repeat steps 2, 3, 4, and 5 for each additional group.

  7. Click Next.

If you forgot to add dimensions and weight for any of your boxes, you'll be prompted to do so now. Although you can quickly enter all required details here, you won't be able to print Packing ID labels from this modal. We recommend clicking X to go back, then completing steps 4 and 5 for these boxes.

Note: If you're sending an LTL batch using 2D barcodes, then you won't be required to provide accurate box weights and dimensions. Only your pallet weights and dimensions will matter.

Ship It

  1. After clicking Next and/or Save and continue, select your Ship Date and click Confirm. This is the date the shipment will be ready for pickup.

  2. After confirming, you will have to wait until Amazon provides placement options for your shipments. Based on the number of items and boxes, this process can take up to 10 minutes.

  3. In the new window, you will see all the placement options available (unless you already chose one for LTL Pack Last). Click an option to show detailed information.

On SPD shipments, you will see your inbound fees and/or shipping costs right away and can review them now.

On LTL Pack First shipments, you will have to choose a placement option and click Confirm Placement.

For any LTL shipment type, you will then need to enter your pallet information and click Get Shipment Costs. You'll then finally see your inbound fees and/or shipping costs.

  4. Click into the Carrier field to choose your carrier.

Note: If you do not choose a partnered carrier, you will need to get shipping costs, labels, and tracking IDs directly from your carrier and provide details before you can move forward.

  5. Click Purchase Labels.

  6. Review your charges and click the checkbox to accept the fees. Confirm by clicking Purchase All Shipping Labels.

  7. Click Print Box and Shipping Labels.

  8. Click Print All Box and Shipping Labels to print the labels for all your shipments at once.

Alternatively, you can tick the boxes next to any specific shipments you want to print labels for, then click Print Box and Shipping Labels.

  9. Look for the Packing ID in the middle of any FBA box label. You'll see the same P# - B# code from one of your Packing ID labels. Apply the box label to the box with the matching Packing ID.

  10. Next, match the shipping label to the box label. They should both have the same Ship To address and the same "# of #" (e.g. 2 of 5) in the upper-right corner.

If your labels both display box weights, as is the case above, make sure these match as well.

  11. With your boxes labeled, you're all set! All you have to do is hand the boxes over to the carrier on your Ship Date. You can then come back and click Close this Batch.
